Jackie Kashian - Customer Reviews

Jackie Kashian speaks highly of herself in the third person. She will anticipate your questions... Yes, the material is true. A caricature; her father likes to point out. (Right... keep telling yourself that). She is the youngest of six children and was raised by wolves. Wolves that meant well and did their best.

How Jackie got started:

In 1985, Jackie got drunk and heckled Sam Kinison in Madison, Wisconsin. She was told, by management, that open mike night was on Sundays. A pretty tale, you'll agree? Yet... still no jail time. Her parents are very proud.

How long has Jackie been touring:

Jackie has been a touring comic for... ever (10-plus years for those who need numbers). In the early '90's she did the road about 35-40 weeks a year and wept softly into a cracked mirror after the gigs. Those weeks were also full of actions that she resignedly accepts without regret after consuming giant amounts of alcohol.

Jackie has just come back from 10 weeks touring Australia for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow. Other prestigious festivals she's been invited to, include: the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen (1996), Bumbershoot Arts Festival in Seattle (2005) and the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal (2003).

Has Jackie done much television:

Depends on your opinion of much. Compared to whom? Compared to other talented comics who haven't done any television, she realizes how lucky she has been and continues to be; but... compared to people who just get work because... alright - Jackie's not going there. Praise Allah or your higher power of choice for the good things.

Jackie has appeared on ABC-Australia, Comedy Central, NBC, VH1, and A&E (Comedy on the Road - back in the 1700's) and she just finished filming a small part in Margaret Cho's new movie Bam Bam and Celeste.

Jackie has a Half Hour Special for Comedy Central and has appeared on several stand-up shows including NBC’s Late Friday and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. She has two CD's; "Cake is Not My Downfall,"her first - a stand-up and theater piece album and her new CD, "Circus People" was released in July, 2005.

Has Jackie gotten good reviews:

Yes, there has been some good press. Thanks for asking.

Last year, the Minneapolis Star Tribune wrote the nicest thing, "Jackie Kashian's comedy is that rare, wonderful combination: smart and funny."

But this past spring, reviews of Jackie in Australia

From ABC, "the gem of the night was Jackie Kashian. Her droll perceptive description of her family was hilarious."

And from The West Australian, Perth's newspaper called her "whipsmart."

Jackie has also been on several panel shows. VH1's "The List" and Comedy Central's "Tough Crowd." In Australia she was on the panel show "The Glass House" with Wil Anderson and that was very fun and funny. (And, since there are 4 channels in Australia, it was like being on TV in the US in the 70's. Everyone has seen it).

Jackie's only television acting was as an an airport cop who busted Jim Dial with a big bag of pot on Murphy Brown), but she takes classes and stuff so as to be prepared.

Jackie also has a couple solo shows. "Salesmen and Thieves" and "How Did I Get So Feminine?" One day she will write the third installment, "It's a Terrible Burden Being Right."

Hobbies and interests:

Jackie enjoys video games, go-carts and other traditionally tiny-child activities in an ongoing attempt to block out reality. Also; wicker gives her the creeps. Now you know.
